Alan Gould, of investment group Evercore, predicts that The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is going to pull in $1 billion (well, $950 million to be exact) at the worldwide box office. To break it down, he thinks that the film will do $375 million domestically (which is a pretty conservative estimate considering that the first film did more than that) and $575 million overseas.

To put things into perspective, The Hunger Games took in $691 million worldwide. So for Catching Fire to make anywhere close to $1 billion, well, that would be quite impressive. Then again, being a sequel, it’s expected that the film will pull in more cash. But still, leaping from $691 to $950 million would be a huge achievement for Lionsgate and would surprise a lot of people.

Personally, I’m looking forward to Catching Fire. I didn’t love The Hunger Games but I also didn’t love the novel. Of the three, Catching Fire was always my favorite book and I’m excited to see how Francis Lawrence translates it to the big screen.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will touch down in theatres on November 22nd, 2013 and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Donald Sutherland and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Do you think that the film will pass the $1 billion mark? Let us know in the comments below.
