There’s been a lot of hype surrounding The Vampire Diaries spin-off The Originals, which officially premieres on the CW next month. This week we’re hearing that NBC Universal’s UK network Syfy has acquired the rights to the UK premiere of the show, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, this is the biggest thing to happen to Syfy since they scored with V back in 2010.
The Originals will feature the original vampire family, or what’s left of them, as they relocate back to their former home of New Orleans. Joseph Morgan will continue his role as Klaus, the hybrid werewolf-vampire, along with Daniel Gillies as Elijah, and Claire Holt as Rebekah. Joining them will be newcomer Charles Michael Davis as Marcel, the vampire who took control of the city after Klaus left over a hundred years ago.
Although fans originally suffered from separation anxiety at the thought of losing so many key players all at once, they’ve seemed to warm up to the idea since watching the backdoor pilot which premiered in April. There’s been tremendous support from TVD fans since the announcement was made that the pilot was picked up for a series order. Most people seem to be genuinely excited to see Klaus step out from under the shadow of Elena (Nina Dobrev) and the Salvatore brothers, and finally get a shot at not being considered the villain in every situation.
If there’s anything that fans are still having trouble coming to terms with, it’s that Klaus and Caroline (Candice Accola) have been put on an indefinite hold. There’s been some teasing about a cross-over episode at some point, so keep your fingers crossed – I am.
No word on the exact date that The Originals will premiere in the UK, but if you’re stateside you can catch it on the CW on October 3rd. If you watched the April episode, most of the pilot will seem like déjà vu, but don’t stop watching, there’s plenty of new scenes tacked on the end.
Let us know if you’ll be tuning in!
