Updates regarding the fourth film in the Mad Max franchise, Mad Max: Fury Road, have been few and far between, with almost nothing being heard about the project since last year. We now have word that the film is still coming our way, but reshoots are needed, and those won’t happen until the end of November.
The film finished principle photography in December, after a six-month shoot in Namibia and South Africa, with the majority of filming happening in the Namibian desert. Now, the cast and crew are headed to Australia for three more weeks of filming. Some of the main cast is needed, and new, Aboriginal roles are being cast (though those parts are assumed to be non-speaking).
Between these reshoots and the extensive post-production that will be needed, it could be a long time until we actually get to see the final film. You may remember that it was original supposed to shoot in 3D, but it was decided that some of the equipment may not hold up well in the harsh desert conditions so they opted to convert it in post.
From director George Miller, Mad Max: Fury Road stars Tom Hardy, with the rest of the cast including Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Zoe Kravitz, Riley Keough and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley
The film doesn’t appear on Roadshow’s release schedule, even though IMDB has the film listed as having a 2014 release date. With these reshoots, it can be assumed the film will be coming in either late 2014 or early 2015. It was originally rumored to be hitting theaters in 2010 though, and then 2012, so who knows when it’ll actually make its way onto the big screen.
