As much fun as Duels of the Planeswalkers 2014 is, you’re only given a set amount of cards to customize decks and play with. If you’re starting to feel a little tired of the repetition, then Wizards of the Coast have got your back. Since we’re still almost a year away from a 2015 edition, an expansion is planned for release to tide fans over.
Coming September 18, the unnamed expansion will arrive with an arsenal of new cards, campaign levels, puzzles and smaller items for players to unlock. Just like the rest of the DotP franchise, the expansion will be available on XBLA, PSN, Steam, iPad and Android. For a more concise list of what to expect, check out part of the release below:
Five New Playable Decks
– Unlock 280 unique cards over multiple battles.
New Campaign Levels
– Battle through six new single-player campaign levels, exploring the planes of Ravnica and Kamigawa.
Five New Challenges
– Fiendish puzzles to test strategic thinking.
Unlock Items
– Unlock new persona portraits, achievements and trophies, and more.
It might not sound like much, but five new decks is a sizable addition to the already huge amount of cards available from the get-go. Despite the fact that it takes quite a while to see everything there is to see and unlock all of the secrets in Duels of the Planeswalkers 2014, this new content should add tons of additional gameplay for fans.
If you’re lucky enough to be attending PAX Prime this weekend, be sure to check out the expansion before it’s released later this month.
I sunk a lot of time into DotP this summer, and I’m looking forward to spending even more time with the new cards. Wizards of the Coast are always coming up with fantastic new additions to their franchise, meaning whether you play Magic: The Gathering exclusively with cards, controllers or both, you’ve got plenty to look forward to.
Even if you’ve never tried playing Magic before, Duels of the Planeswalkers 2014 is an ideal starting point because of how well it explains the game. Try it out if you’ve ever had any interest in the card game, and don’t forget to pick up the expansion when it’s released on September 18.
