One of the biggest fan favorites to play Batman (and every single other superhero) is Nathan Fillion. In fact, many fans have been campaigning for the actor to be given the role of the Caped Crusader since long before Batman Vs. Superman was announced. Unfortunately for all those fans, Fillion says not only has he not been approached for the role, but that he would make a terrible Batman.
Check out what he had to say regarding his chances at nabbing the role below:
“I wonder if my throat could take it. I think I’d make an excellent Bruce Wayne; I think I’d make a terrible Batman.”
I’m one of the millions who agrees that Fillion should play a major superhero, but I think it seems more likely he goes the Marvel route rather than DC. He has a history of great roles under Joss Wedon, so it only makes sense that he’d want to join that director’s cinematic comic universe. That being said, there are plenty of characters in the DC universe he could properly play, including the Green Lantern, who he recently voiced in Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox.
Regardless of what Fillion says, I wouldn’t count anyone in or out for the role at this point. There’s always the chance that Fillion was purposefully being deceptive, and even if he really hasn’t been approached yet, that doesn’t mean it can’t still happen. But, Fillion did provide some advice to fans who are desperate to see one a particular actor as their favorite hero. Check out that quote below.
If you wanted to see a particular person as Batman, I think one of the worst things you could do is shove it down someone’s throat as far as the new director of Batman or the new producers of Batman. Probably the worst thing you could do if there’s someone you want to be Batman is sort of rally.”
I’m not totally sure I agree with that comment. While an active forum or an online petition isn’t going to make Warner Bros. select a certain actor, I don’t think it’s going to hurt in any way. After all, the whole point of these movies (from a studio’s perspective) is to get people into the theaters and spending money. If the execs at Warner can be confident that their casting will please a large fan base, then I don’t think that would dissuade them from casting Fillion, or anyone, in a role.
