With a new Batman needing to be cast soon, the internet has been full of speculation as to which actor should don the cape and cowl next. One man whose name has popped up more than most is Armie Hammer, but unfortunately for the fans who want Hammer to play the next Batman, he says he isn’t interested in the character, or any superhero movies for that matter.
In a conversation with Metro, Hammer was asked what he thought of all the speculation. His reply makes it seem like there’s next to no chance he’ll ever be strapping on a cape. Check out what he had to say below.
I’m not actually a big fan of superhero films. If you have a guy who is supposed to be invulnerable, then what’s the point?
I respect the fact he isn’t interested in taking on a comic book film. The genre isn’t for everyone, just like horror, sci-fi, or any other genre may not work for every actor. But his statement asking what’s the point seems fairly ignorant. Anyone who watches comic book films knows that most heroes are very vulnerable, and even a hero like Superman still has struggles. The genre is based around conflict, and if that wasn’t present, these movies wouldn’t be raking in the billions that they have in recent years.
There’s also the chance that Hammer gave a purposefully ignorant answer because he’s already in talks to star in the Batman Vs. Superman. That may be a stretch, but if he is in talks for the role, he probably wouldn’t want to give an answer that could lead to anyone believing he’s involved. But again, I may really be reaching here.
