I’ll have to admit, though I didn’t see much in him at first, I’ve begun to really enjoy Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as an actor. He’s not going to win an Academy Award anytime soon, but he consistently entertains and has given solid performances recently in films like Snitch, G.I. Joe: Retaliation and the last two Fast & Furious movies. Now, we’re hearing that the actor is being eyed for a role in another big franchise film as The Examiner reports that Johnson is wanted to play the villain in Terminator 5.
Now, this is far from confirmed and only a rumour but what’s interesting is that the report says that the plot will be set in the 1940s and claims that Schwarzenegger will return, though he won’t be playing a robot. Instead, he’ll take on the role of a “man whose ability to protect the Connor family during that time period inspired the design of the T-800 from James Cameron’s 1984 sci-fi classic.”
So far, all we really know about the film is that Paramount will distribute it and Drive Angry scribe Patrick Lussier will be scripting it alongside Shutter Island writer Laeta Kalogridis. Though not confirmed yet, Arnie has said that production will star in January 2014, which means we’ll likely see the film in early 2015.
Personally, I think the idea of Dwayne Johnson joining the Terminator franchise is an excellent one and I do hope that this all turns out to be true. Seeing him face off against Schwarzenegger would be a real treat and I think he would be the exact shot to the heart that this franchise needs.
