With Star Wars: Episode VII going into production sometime in 2014, it’s likely that we’re going to get a clearer picture of what is coming our way from the Star Wars universe quite soon. Disney will be making more than just a trilogy of films, we know that much so far, but there hasn’t been any confirmation in terms of what all we’ll be seeing from a galaxy far, far away.
We have heard there is going to be a trilogy film every other year, with spin-offs coming in the years between. A “trusted and reliable source” spoke to Joblo and said that this is indeed to the schedule Disney is opting for. That means trilogy films in 2015, 2017, and 2019, with spin-offs in 2016 and 2018.
The source also claims to know which two spin-offs we’re going to see. There have been a ton of rumors regarding which characters or stories will get their own films, but if this source is correct, it’s the two most commonly rumored characters who will be getting more big-screen appearances: Han Solo and Boba Fett.
Neither of these picks are a surprise, as both characters are favorites among hard-core Star Wars fans, but neither are obscure enough that they’d turn off the casual fans either. Solo’s solo film will focus on his relationship with Chewie, likely detailing how they met and obtained the Millennium Falcon. There aren’t any details on the Boba Fett movie yet.
As always with unnamed sources, this isn’t set in stone, and there’s no reason to treat it as fact until someone at Disney or Lucasfilm confirms the report. But still, this goes in line with everything we had heard before and is a logical start to Disney mining the Star Wars universe for every last drop of cinematic gold.
