Volition Collaborating With Modders For Saints Row On PC

Volition, the THQ-turned-Deep Silver developer of the Saints Row series, is in the process of something that will excite fans of the franchise who have sunk time into the PC versions of Saints Row 2 and Saints Row: The Third. While modding communities for both games have existed for a while, Jeff Thompson, the company's director of programming, is working on official engine tools for both games to share with fans.

Volition, the developer of the Saints Row series, who is currently owned by Deep Silver after THQ’s bankruptcy, is in the process of something that will excite fans of the franchise who have sunk time into the PC versions of Saints Row 2 and Saints Row: The Third. While modding communities for both games have existed for a while, Jeff Thompson, the company’s director of programming, is working on official engine tools for both games.

If you’re wondering what exactly this means, it means that fans can expect to see a lot of new content in the near future. Prominent series modder IdolNinja specified in a blog post that players will be able to create and share “new clothing, new vehicles, new guns, new NPCs, new missions, and even new world geometry which will greatly extend the life of the series and enhance the Saints Row games in ways we never even dared to dream of.”

To add to the excitement, IdolNinja also said that the process of creating these tools for the second and third games is also serving as a sort of “test run” for eventually creating similar tools for the upcoming Saints Row IV. The idea of combining user-generated content with all of the crazy possibilities that the newest entry promises to offer, such as mech suits and superpowers, is indeed enticing. I’ve played the Saints Row series myself on Xbox 360 up to this point, but I might start looking into jumping ship to the PC version if this turns out as interesting as it sounds.

We will keep you updated on more news regarding Saints Row IV, and the Saints Row franchise as a whole, as it is announced.
