If the reports about David Goyer penning Man Of Steel 2 and Justice League aren’t shot down pretty soon, I may have to start writing a column gathering all the Goyer news and rumors that appear each day. There’s going to be a whole lot of that stuff pouring in soon. Maybe we’ll call it Goyer Goodies? Maybe not…
The Goyer goody I have for you today is from an interview with MTV where the writer talked about his involvement with the JLA movie, confirming nothing, but mentioning an interesting character that very possibly could be brought into the film. First check out his quote about writing Justice League.
“If I were offered it, I wouldn’t say no. Well, what are you going to do after Batman and Superman? How do you top yourself? I can’t go back to Metamorpho after this.”
So according to that quote he still hasn’t been offered the gig, but with how secretive the process has been and is going to be, that means absolutely nothing. He could have the script completely finished and the future Wally West sleeping on his couch and his answer still would’ve been the same. As unrevealing as that quote is, his response when asked about other MOS Easter Eggs could give a lot more insight into Justice League than anything we’ve heard so far. Check out what he had to say below.
“We mentioned S.T.A.R. Labs at one point, that’s kind of a connection to Cyborg.”
Cyborg, for those who don’t know, is half-man, half-machine. His body was destroyed in an accident, but he was kept alive through a variety of machines and weapons, which also continually provide life support. He’s best known as a member of the Teen Titans, but where it gets interesting is in DC’s New 52 reboot, where he’s a founding member of the JLA. Goyer mentioning that specific character seems a little too convenient to just be a coincidence.
Goyer also confirmed what fans of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy have known since July: those films are in no way tied into the current run of DC flicks. Nolan very much created a stand-alone universe, there were no other heroes living outside of Gotham City. But as we know, Zack Snyder has not done the same thing. He’s created a world where other heroes exist, even if they aren’t seen in MOS. Check out what Goyer had to say about that below.
“The ‘Dark Knight’ films do not exist in the same universe. Zack [Snyder] has gone on record. The fact that we have Wayne Industries on the satellite, Bruce Wayne exists in this universe. Lex Luthor exists in this universe. Other metahumans do exist in this universe, so the hope is, depending on how the film does, that we’ll be able to roll into some other films.”
So perhaps that statement will provide further closure to any nonsensical rumors about Christian Bale or Joseph Gordon-Levitt playing the Caped Crusader in Justice League. Now it’s time to speculate on the possibility of a JLA with Cyborg as a founding member and who can play the machine-man. Until then, check back with us for all your David Goyer and Justice League news.
The Goyer Grapevine? I’ll work on it…
