After spoiling us earlier in the year with the very first images of the sequel to 2011’s smash hit The Raid, director Gareth Evans has seen fit to give us two more glimpses at the anticipated follow up, The Raid 2: Berandal.

The first of these images, shown above, is a character called Hammer Girl, played by Julie Estelle. Only a face shot at the moment so it’s impossible to confirm whether or not the rest of her body consists of a giant hammer, but time will surely tell. If the first film in this quickly growing series was anything to go by, that’s not strawberry jam on her face.

The second image is of a near miss between a 4×4 and a camera set-up. It’s unclear if it was an accident or just a very close but deliberate shot, but either way, it gives a perfect indication of just how action-packed this sequel is going to be. Here’s the proof:

That really does look like a close call.

The good news is that again, Gareth Evans is directing his own script. Plus, Iko Uwais returns as Rama and with a rumoured 100 days of shooting, there’s bound to be more action than you can shake a severed limb at.

The original was something of a sleeper hit, but the sequel is shaping up to be an absolute smash. Word of mouth from the fans of the first alone will be enough to buoy it into profitability, and if the critics support it in the same way that they did with the first, then Gareth Evans is bound to be onto another winner. Who knows what awaits him in his career? With promise like this, surely it won’t be long before Hollywood signs him up to squander his talent on a Die Hard sequel.

The Raid 2: Berandal is due for release on the 8th of September in Indonesia, according to IMDB. No word as of yet on international dates.
