Jon Favreau hasn’t been doing much directing lately (at least not in the film world), but he is putting together a little indie ensemble comedy called Chef. He’s scripted the film and has already locked in Sofia Vergara, John Leguizamo and Bobby Cannavale. Now, the director has added one more name to the cast list: Robert Downey Jr. Yes, that’s right, the duo that made Iron Man popular again will be teaming up once more.
Production is set to start on July 8th, according to Variety, and the film will follow “a man who loses his chef job and starts up a food truck to reclaim his artistic promise and reclaiming his estranged family.” That’s all we know right now and so far, there’s no word on which role Downey Jr. will play. We’re guessing it won’t be a large part though.
This is most likely just a favor to an old friend as Downey Jr. obviously knows that his name alone can sell a film. With the Marvel Universe still on his plate, plus countless other projects, I can’t see RDJ devoting much time to an indie comedy. At least not at this stage in his career, which, funnily enough, was re-vitalized by an indie comedy (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang).
