The city of Pawnee, Indiana isn’t ready to exit out of our lives just yet!
Parks and Recreation has been renewed for a sixth season on NBC, announced just a week after its season finale last Thursday. The “mockumentary” styled show has been the station’s most consistent hit all year, quickly becoming a fixture on televisions across America. The finale featured an unexpected pregnancy, news that characters may be leaving the series, and Leslie Knope at perhaps her lowest moment with an entire town looking to get her fired. It is expected to be given a full season order to help NBC during its current comedy show transition period.
NBC has been working frantically all year to find new shows for their line up, knowing that this last year would be the end of two of their biggest hits, The Office and 30 Rock, and it will be looking to Parks and Recreation to anchor it for at least one more year in order to bring in fresh new comedy blood.
On Sunday, NBC plans to announce their new Fall line up, while news on Community, Go On, The New Normal, and Guys With Kids has not yet surfaced. 1600 Penn, Whitney, and Up All Night have all already been canceled, while shows like Animal Practice only lasted a few episodes this season.
NBC has also announced that they have picked up three new comedies for the Fall, including: Sean Saves The World, The Family Guide and About A Boy, based on the movie and novel of the same name. Given the influx of new shows, it is not likely that all four aforementioned comedies will be given new seasons, but my fingers are personally crossed for Community and Go On. In the meantime though, I will celebrate the news of Parks and Recreation returning Ron Swanson style, with all the bacon and eggs I can find.
