I make no secret about my massive skepticism concerning Michael Bay’s upcoming reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. (Yeah, I know that Bay is not directing it, but c’mon: it’s looking more and more like a Michael Bay film). It’s a terrible idea and I will consider it a terrible idea until something comes along to make me change my mind. That something is most certainly not the recent images of Megan Fox as reporter April O’Neil (via Screen Crush).
It’s not that Fox does not look good – she does. It’s that she just looks so very much like Megan Fox. As in, she’s not playing a character named April O’Neil, who often appeared in the cartoons as a red-head in a yellow jumpsuit, or in the original live-action films as a … female journalist trying to make it in what was considered a masculine profession. Fox appears pretty much as she did in the Transformers films. But maybe she’ll act differently. Maybe April’s really upset about being pigeon-holed into demonstrating exercise clothes on a trampoline (as in these images) and she’s going to rebel against her male bosses and become a total hard-hitting journalist. That would be pretty cool. I’m still skeptical, though.
Admittedly, I’m not surprised by how uninteresting this movie is shaping up to be. It does make me a little sad, though. I cannot even summon a great deal of ire for this. This movie is happening, and I, once more, will have to live with a world in which there’s a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot that Michael Bay had a hand in. Then again, maybe Bay and his heroes in the half-shell will surprise me. We’ll just have to wait and see.
Check out the images below and sound off on just how terrible I’m being in the comments.
