Bethesda Softworks tweeted out a link to a short Vine looping video clip today, that teases what appears to be an upcoming reveal for the company’s next project.
The teaser video (embedded below) is set to the sounds of a crackling record player, and opens up with a shot of some spinning barbed wire, before switching to quick close-up shots of spinning music record labels. The entire video goes by extremely fast, making it hard to read everything written on the record labels, but the following words are clearly seen in the screenshots posted in the gallery below; “Association Of Broadcasters”, “The Moonbeam Trio”, and “Air on the G-String” by Johann Sebastian Bach.
While the four-second teaser clip does not specifically reveal what the game could be, the presentation does give off a strong Fallout vibe. Backing up that line of thought is the fact that Fallout 3 featured a location called “Moonbeam Outdoor Cinema” and (as pointed out by Polygon) Bach’s music appeared in that game on Agatha’s radio station.
Fallout: New Vegas senior producer Jason Bergman added to the Fallout 4 speculation by tweeting the link and saying, “Consider Yourself Teased“. However, this has been somewhat tempered by Pete Hines, Bethesda’s vice president of public relations and marketing, who later tweeted “Guess again” in reference to the Vine video being Fallout-related.
While Bethesda has never officially confirmed that Fallout 4 is in the works, there have been two recent rumors claiming the game is in development. Last January the voice actor who portrayed the disc jockey Three Dog in Fallout 3 teased that Bethesda might announce a sequel to the game in the near future. That speculation was quickly followed up by an unconfirmed leak stating that the game would set in Boston and be “kind of” a direct sequel to Fallout 3.
Despite Bethesda’s denial that this teaser has anything to do with Fallout, I’m sticking with that theory based on the established connections and lots of wishful thinking. Make sure to give us your best guess as to what the Bethesda video is all about in the comment section below.
[Update] Bethesda has revealed that the game will be announced tomorrow on IGN. Additionally, current speculation points towards the game being Shinji Mikami’s Zwei.
