Deadline is reporting that actors Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty) and Omar Sy (The Intouchables) have joined Stephen Gaghan’s upcoming film Candy Store. The character-driven action thriller is set to “interweave several storylines set against the criminal underworld of Brooklyn.”

For those unfamiliar with the film, check out the plot summary below:

A former covert operative (Clarke) discovers the organization he was dedicated to fighting is now operating in his new backyard. When he teams with a disgraced local cop, their investigation leads them to a king pimp (Sy), a Cold War consigliere, and a beautiful girl wrapped up in an elaborate threat against Manhattan.

Though Sy and Clarke are the first confirmed actors for the film, Candy Store has been a hot property around Hollywood lately, drawing the attention of stars like Brad Pitt, Denzel Washington, Jamie Foxx, Christian Bale, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Bradley Cooper and Christoph Waltz.

If the names Jason Clarke and Omar Sy don’t stand out to you, don’t worry. Clarke is just starting to get recognized thanks to his stellar work in Zero Dark Thirty. He’ll also have roles in two films this Summer: The Great Gatsby and White House Down. Additionally, you’ll be able to catch him in a lead role in the upcoming sequel Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

In fact, Clarke revealed that he was going to be doing Candy Store in an interview about a month ago, but it wasn’t until the press release that came out this week that we had official confirmation.

As for Sy, his profile is a bit lower than Clarke’s though he earned excellent reviews for his work in 2011’s The Intouchables. He’ll also have a role in the upcoming X-Men: Days Of Future Past.

Both men are talented actors and will bring a lot to Stephen Gaghan’s Candy Store, which is shaping up to be quite promising. One thing to note is that even though Chris Hemsworth was apparently confirmed to star in the film a few months ago, the new press release makes no mention of his name. At this point, it’s unclear if he’s still involved or not.

What do you think of Candy Store so far? Is it shaping up to be a film you’d like to see?
