Get your trigger fingers ready, because it appears that the success of last year’s Sniper Elite v2 is giving Rebellion another go with Sniper Elite 3.

Sniper Elite v2 achieved worldwide success with approximately 1.1 million copies sold and $28.6 million in revenue, since the game’s launch in April 2012 through the end of December. On top of this, Sniper Elite 3 is expected to to have, “an impact on the Group’s revenues for FY 2013-2014 of $28.6 million Euros [$37 million USD].”

Joystiq reached out to 505 games in order to gain some clarity on the status of Sniper Elite 3. Here’s what they had to say:

“We were hoping the news would remain quiet within the Italian financial community until we could formally announce the game which we plan to do soon.”

With any luck, Rebellion’s official announcement of Sniper Elite 3 will take players into another historical time period. Now, I love my WWII action as much as the next person, but I can’t help to feel that Rebellion has the opportunity to create a truly special experience with the next installment.

Rebellion have already created a solid sniping experience to build upon, and imagining the possibilities of moving the franchise into a new time period is endlessly exciting. All I’m saying is that shifting the game into the future could provide for new and engaging, gameplay dynamics. New weaponry, increased firepower and an improved x-ray kill-cam may very well combine to create the quintessential sniping experience.

Get your trigger fingers ready because it appears that the success of last year’s Sniper Elite v2 is giving Rebellion another chance to create sniping heaven.

Sniper Elite 3 is expected to arrive in 2014. Do you have ideas for where you think that the franchise should go? Are you tired of WWII? Make your voice heard in the comments below, and let us know if you plan on picking it up next year!
