So we already know that Screen Gems is planning a September 12th, 2014 release date for Resident Evil 6, but before today, we had no confirmation on whether or not Paul W.S. Anderson, who directed Resident Evil, Resident Evil: Afterlife and Resident Evil: Retribution, would return to helm the sixth instalment. Thanks to First Showing though, we now know that Anderson will indeed be back as will star Milla Jovovich.
The film is set to start shooting this Fall but currently, we don’t really have any plot details. We do know though that Anderson created Resident Evil: Afterlife as the start of a new trilogy, which means that it’s very likely that Resident Evil 6 will be the final film in the series. And if that’s the case, then we’re all in luck.
I mean sure, the Resident Evil films do have a decent fanbase, and the last film in the series, Resident Evil: Retribution, pulled in $222 million worldwide. But still, this is a series the seriously needs to end. It’s just more of the same with every new instalment and none of the films are even that good. The first one was the best in my opinion and the way I see it, each film that’s come out since the initial one has just gotten increasingly worse. Still, each Resident Evil film has its moments and having already seen them all, I’ll likely be checking this one out too.
Resident Evil: Retribution ended on a cliffhanger, so those who have seen it may have some idea of where Anderson and Jovovich are headed for the sixth and final instalment. But until more plot details are released, we’ll have to stick with speculation.
What do you make of all this? Happy to see Anderson back in the director’s chair for Resident Evil 6? Let us know in the comments below.
