Lucasfilm Planning New Animated Star Wars Series, Winding Down Clone Wars

Ever since Disney purchased Lucasfilm, speculation has been swirling about what exactly the mouse house would be doing with their newest property. The new trilogy of films was announced right away, but it's no stretch to assume Disney has quite a lot more planned. One of the favorite rumours is a new Star Wars TV show, and we now have confirmation that Lucasfilm is indeed planning a new animated series set in a galaxy far, far away.

Ever since Disney purchased Lucasfilm, speculation has been swirling about what exactly the mouse house would be doing with their newest property. The new trilogy of films was announced right away, but it’s no stretch to assume Disney has quite a lot more planned. One of the favorite rumours is a new Star Wars TV show, and we now have confirmation that Lucasfilm is indeed planning a new animated series set in a galaxy far, far away.

While there still aren’t many details about what this show will focus on, we do know that it will be animated series and it is set in a time period previously untouched by any Star Wars films or television series.

The announcement also includes the news that Lucasfilm is now winding down their popular Clone Wars series. Although they are no longer producing new episodes for Cartoon Network, they are continuing production on some new story arcs that the people at the studio think will be some of the most exciting yet. The news of where fans will be able to find this bonus content will come later from Lucasfilm, and we’ll post it for you as soon as we hear it.

The other bit of news we have is the postponement of Star Wars Detours, an animated comedy series set between the events of the prequel trilogy and the original trilogy. Created by Seth Green, Matthew Senreich, and Todd Grimes, the series already has a ton of voice actors on board, but Lucasfilm has now decided to push back the release of that show as they further development of the next trilogy of films.

The question this raises, at least for me, is will there still be a live-action television show? There’s been a lot of speculation about a show set between Episode III and IV, but there hasn’t been any concrete information to indicate that. I’d love to see that series, or any live-action series for Star Wars, but I think it’s safe to assume that if one does happen, it won’t be anytime soon.

What do you think of this new animated Star Wars series? What about the delay of Star Wars Detours? Is there a story line from the expanded universe novels that you’d like the show to follow? Share your thoughts in the comments section below!
