Tim Miller, the VFX specialist who is attached to direct 20th Century Fox’s Deadpool film, is now at the helm of another film for the studio, sci-fi thriller Artemis.
We really don’t have a ton of information about the film yet other than the knowledge that it might be set in outer space. Andrew Lobel, the writer behind Tunnels, is penning the script. As always, we’ll keep you updated with more information about the plot as it comes in.
Miller also is attached to the upcoming adaptation of the Joe Haldeman novella Seasons, but there hasn’t been any concrete news on that film in a while. Perhaps Miller just wants to have a whole portfolio of sci-fi scripts ready to go before he actually starts on one.
For those not familiar with his work, Miller worked on the visual effects for films such as X-Men, Planet of the Apes, and Where the Wild Things Are. All of those films had pretty awesome VFX, so that bodes well for any sci-fi projects under Miller’s control.
Some people are panicking, saying this news surely means the end of Deadpool. While the fact that Miller is working on another project certainly doesn’t bode well for Deadpool coming to the big screen in the next year or so, I wouldn’t be so quick to freak out. Remember, directors are capable of having multiple films on their mind in the span of a few years, so it’s going to be okay everyone. We also don’t have any time table on either Artemis or Seasons, so there’s a chance that Deadpool could still happen first. There’s no reason to panic yet, I promise.
What do you think of Miller taking on Artemis? Are you worried about the fate of Deadpool or would you rather see Miller work on other sci-fi projects? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
