This is in no way official, and is pretty shaky at best, but an Australian radio show host claims that he has it on “good authority” that John Noble, star of television’s Fringe, will be playing a villain in Star Wars: Episode VII. The only thing that gives any bit of credence to this rumor is that Abrams is the man behind Fringe, so there’s the link between the two. Other than that, there’s no reason to take this seriously, at least not right now.
If this does turn out to be true though, I’d be behind it. Noble was excellent on Fringe and played a solid villain (Denethor) in The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. He’s a good actor who would fit into the film quite well, especially given his previous working relationship with Abrams and his experience with big budget films. Truthfully, I couldn’t see him playing the lead villain but perhaps a supporting villain role could work well. What do you think?
Again though, this should be taken with a grain of salt and it likely won’t pan out. Star Wars: Episode VII is still a long aways off and a whole lot can change. Even if Abrams is indeed talking to Noble, who knows if things will work out? Like I said above though, if it does end up happening, I’m on board. In fact, we even pegged Noble as one of the actors we would like to see in the film, and that was before we heard about this rumor.
