Semi-confirming that the hours we spent pouring over bad Google translations of Famitsu reports on Suda 51’s upcoming Killer is Dead game was not wasted time, the video game super sleuth Superannuation has dug up some evidence suggesting that XSEED will publish the title in North America.
Officially Killer is Dead has only been confirmed for a Japanese release this Summer on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, however, last week XSEED registered the domain killerisdead-game along with the potential marketing-related domains “killandlove” and “loveandkill”. This is either the domains for something else (and therefore a huge coincidence) or XSEED is doing what they do best, bringing highly demanded Japanese games over to Western audiences.
It is also worth noting that the domain registrations expire in about a year, which would line up nicely with the amount of marketing time needed to launch Killer is Dead in North America sometime later this year.
If you have not been keeping up with our Killer is Dead coverage (and, by the way, shame on you) the game is set in the near-future and centers around a 35-year-old man named Mondo Zappa. One day the Brian Execution Firm offers Mondo a job to travel the world and kill a number of “cunningly evil” assassins.
To fulfill his new job requirements Mondo has two different weapon platforms. The first is a sword that he uses in close-quarter attacks. The second is a cybernetic addition to his left arm that can transform into a gun, drill, or other weapons obtained throughout the course of the game. It also has a secondary function that allows Mondo to collect the blood from fallen enemies and so that he can unleash an “Adrenalin Burst” attack that kills foes with a single slash from his sword.
We got our first look at Killer is Dead with the game’s debut trailer last week, which we have re-posted below for your convenience and because we love you… and because we love Suda 51, and because we know you love Suda 51 (which completes our strange little love triangle). As soon as we get any official word on the game’s North American release we will let you know.
