Fox Announces The Sessions For Blu-Ray In February

Actor John Hawkes gives an Oscar-worthy performance in Ben Lewin's dramatic, yet slightly comedic take on a Polio patient looking to experience sexual relations before it's too late. The Sessions very well might be one of the most touching and yet incredibly funny films of 2012 and yet here it sits with barely any Oscar nominations. John Hawkes certainly deserved a nod, but at least Helen Hunt got some attention from the gold givers.

Fox has announced the Blu-Ray release of Ben Lewin’s The Sessions for February. The film stars John Hawkes, William H. Macy and Helen Hunt.

I’m sure more and more people will discover this one on home video and soon realize just how good it actually is. The Sessions deals with such a life-threatening disease like Polio with a rare balance of humor and wit, while maintaining the serious nature of the subject matter. Also, William H. Macy is sort of hilarious as a man of the church. Watch the film for Hawkes’ performance, but stay for Macy’s laugh-inducing hair!

Our very own Jonathan Lack had this to say about the film in his review:

Though Ben Lewin’s The Sessions is, at times, a wildly imperfect film, the project has such a strong heart, and features so many moments of sheer cinematic beauty, that I found it impossible not to be moved. This is an uplifting story about an inspirational man, told with passion, grace, and insight. It should not be missed.

The Blu-Ray will be presented in 1080p with a 5.1 lossless audio track and it will come with the following bonus content:

  • John Hawkes becomes Mark O’Brien
  • Helen Hunt as the Sex Surrogate
  • The Women Who Loved Mark O’Brien
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Writer/Director Ben Lewin Finds Inspiration
  • A Session with the Cast
  • Ultraviolet Copy

The Sessions is scheduled to hit shelves on February 12th, 2013.
