A couple of weeks ago we reported that Hugh Jackman might be set for an appearance in the upcoming X-Men: Days Of Future Past. Then, Jackman made some comments making it sound like he would be around for more than just a 3-line cameo. Well today, director Bryan Singer confirmed on twitter that Jackman has officially joined the cast.

Check out Singer’s tweet below.

The ending of that tweet makes us wonder who is going to be announced next. A safe assumption would be Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, neither of whom are officially signed on, but both are considered an almost done deal. However, Singer could have someone else lined up that no one knows about. The time-travelling plot of Days Of Future Past opens up some intriguing possibilities, including a possible Cable appearance.

This will be Jackman’s 6th portrayal of the adamantium-fueled Logan (7th if you count the cameo in First Class) and at this point it’s almost impossible to picture someone else taking on the character. As many problems as people had with the original X-Men trilogy and with X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Jackman’s portrayal was rarely one of them. He’s almost perfect in the role, and with each film he’s become better and better.

The Wolverine will be the next chance to see Jackman on screen as the character, but that film is said to be separate from the rest of the X-Men films.

In case you haven’t read it yet. Check out a synopsis for Days Of Future Past below.

The storyline alternates between present day, in which the X-Men fight Mystique’s Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, and a future timeline caused by the X-Men’s failure to prevent the Brotherhood from assassinating Senator Robert Kelly. In this future universe, Sentinels rule the United States, and mutants live in internment camps. The present-day X-Men are forewarned of the possible future by a future version of their teammate Kitty Pryde, whose mind traveled back in time and possessed her younger self to warn the X-Men.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past hits theaters July 18th, 2014.
