In a move that was so not like Terrence Malick, the director started working on a new feature film almost straight after he’d finished with another, opting to break the traditional decade-long period of exile that keeps him so enigmatic and mysterious among serious film fans. Now he’s just like a normal director, and is sure to lose points with those who treat their quiet auteurs like spiritual entities.
Anyway, To The Wonder, Malick’s sixth film in almost forty years, is reportedly set for an April 2013 release date in the US. It’ll be released earlier in the UK, though, because Studio Canal have agreed to distribute it on the Queen’s good earth first in a way that is just so typical of them.
To The Wonder stars a whole host of beloved actors including Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, and Javier Bardem, because Terrence Malick can pluck anybody out of the actorsphere and make them perform in one of his movies if he chooses to do so. You never know when he’s just gonna disappear, see, so you have to work with him while you have the chance.
Although, you might not have known that Terrence Malick has also just finished work on another film. His seventh. Seriously. No title yet, but it’s just finished shooting in Austin with Michael Fassbender, Natalie Portman and Ryan Gosling. He’s really ruining all that exile schtick he played on for years, right? Terrence Malick is annoying you now, isn’t he? Yeah. That man can’t do anything right.
