This date for Ant-Man means the film will be the first of Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase Three, and also that Phase Three will begin the same year as The Avengers 2 is released. It also confirms that Phase Two will be be comprised of three sequels and one new film (Guardians of the Galaxy). It was originally rumored that Ant-Man would begin filming as early as next spring, but this current date falls in line with Marvel’s plan of two films a year.
Now that a date is set, the question of who will be cast in the role is the next thing to be addressed. There have been some rumors that with the focus on S.H.I.E.L.D. in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Ant-Man will make his appearance as an agent there, while others think that with the nano-technology driven plot of Iron Man 3, an appearance in that film is more likely. Marvel still has some time to figure this out, but chances are an Ant-Man cameo will happen at some point and they’ll want to nail down their man before too long.
