The Walking Dead season 3 ramp up continues with AMC releasing a cast interview featurette, giving us an idea of what to expect for the October 14th premiere.
As was teased in the final moments of season 2’s finale, the show is moving into some familiar territory for those of us who have kept along with the comic series, with the cast finding sanctuary in a mostly abandoned prison. This season will also introduce two of the biggest and most popular characters in the series, Michonne and The Governor.
From what we can see in this short preview, the show’s creators have taken to heart the complaints of last year’s slow-paced season, and have really charged up the core group. They seem to be getting a handle for the world they now inhabit, and have started to be more active in how they approach it.
Rick seems to be taking on the leadership role pretty seriously, even to the detriment of his relationship with his wife. And now that Shane is gone, it looks like fan-favorite Daryl will be stepping into the role of Rick’s number two. Glenn and Maggie’s relationship will obviously go a step further this season, and it even looks like T-Dog might take on a bigger role.
As excited as I am about finally getting to the prison, I’m even more excited about seeing the town of Woodbury and more importantly, The Governor (played by David Morrissey). From what little is shown in the featurette, it looks to be an impressive set and a big change from last season’s single location shoot.
It’s unclear if this season will stick closely to the source material, as it’s pretty much deviated from it in the past two seasons, but if so this could be one of the more explosive seasons with very big ramifications going forward.
The Walking Dead returns to AMC on October 14th.
