/Film is reporting that The Boondock Saints III is indeed in the works, which is fantastic news!
The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day didn’t do wonders at the box office and it certainly didn’t pull in the home video numbers that its predecessor did but apparently, the film still did well enough to warrant a third entry into the beloved series.
Admittedly, The Boondock Saints is more of a cult film at this point and its appeal and the appeal of the series as a whole isn’t exactly widespread, but being the huge Boondock fan that I am, I couldn’t be happier to hear this news. The best part is is that it news comes straight from the mouth of star Norman Reedus.
In an interview with IFC to discuss The Walking Dead, Reedus had the following to say about The Boondock Saints III:
“I’m in L.A. right now,” he told the site. “I’m meeting with [star] Sean [Patrick Flanery] and Troy tonight. I just landed a couple hours ago and tonight I’m going over to Troy’s house with Sean. It’s definitely in the works. Look for it. It’s gonna be crazy.”
Now, if you recall, we spoke to director Troy Duffy last year and at that time, he had told us that the films would continue on the small screen and that a Boondock Saints TV series was being planned. Apparently, that fell through and now the boys are trying to continue their adventures in feature film format, which is fine by me.
As mentioned above, I love these films and news that a third entry is in the works is music to my ears. I say bring it on!
Stay tuned as we’ll be sure to bring you more news on the film as it arises.
