When it was announced that Johnny Depp will indeed be playing in Wes Anderson World in the director’s next film The Grand Budapest Hotel, it seemed like the high-profile cast couldn’t get much higher. Now, The Film Stage tells us that we get to add Jude Law’s name to the growing list of guests.
Law will reportedly only have a “fleeting” role in The Grand Budapest Hotel and he only got the role by constantly asking Anderson to cast him:
“I pestered him with emails for years, saying ‘I want to live in one of your films and I’d like to be in one of your films.”
That’s not all though as there is even more potential casting news on the horizon. Rumors abound that Edward Norton will join the cast too. Though the actor has not directly confirmed it, he does say that Anderson knows he’s available:
“Wes knows I’m in his troupe, I’m in Wes‘s repertory company any time he wants, and we’ve talked about it, and I think he’s assembling it soon.”
Given Norton’s fairly large part in Moonrise Kingdom, there’s a good chance we’ll see him The Grand Budapest Hotel.
Anderson really is one of those directors who collects a cadre of cast regulars, but it’s nice to see him branching out with some new stars. The director also hopes to get back old friends like Jeff Goldblum and Willem Dafoe for the film and of course, we expect the presence of Bill Murray too, if only for a millisecond.
The Grand Budapest Hotel will likely begin shooting in January and we will make sure to keep on eye on casting updates as they become available.
