Alfred Hitchcock would be a proud man if he were still around. Two biopics of his life were recently filmed and today we have the first trailer for one of them, HBO’s The Girl.
In the film, Toby Jones stars as Hitchcock and Sienna Miller plays Tippi Hedren, the leading lady of Hitchcock’s The Birds and Marnie. Both actors are close physical matches to the real-life people they play and at the very least, the performances should be intriguing to watch.
The teaser is quite brief but from what we know, the film will focus on Hitchcock and Hedren’s relationship as well as the giving us a look at the making of The Birds as well as some other iconic moments from the filmmaker’s life.
As interesting as The Girl looks, I’m still more excited about Hitchcock, the biopic set for theatrical release in 2013. For one thing, it will focus on Psycho (a far superior example of Hitchcock’s talent). Also, the cast is a bit more promising, with Anthony Hopkins as Hitchcock and Helen Mirren, Jessica Biel, Ralph Macchio and Scarlett Johansson rounding out the supporting players.
That being said, I’m still willing to give The Girl a chance when it premieres on HBO on October 20th.
