Matt Damon may have stepped down as Jason Bourne after the Bourne trilogy was completed back in 2007 but that doesn’t mean that’s where it ended. Now, five years later, we get to see the story continue with Jeremy Renner taking over the reigns as a new generation of genetically altered agents is revealed in The Bourne Legacy.
The latest batch of promotional material promises that The Bourne Legacy will fill all expectations established by the first three. This film is unique in that it is sort of both a spin-off and a sequel at the same time as it follows the plot sequentially but adds a new hero to the mix with his own story to tell.
Tony Gilroy, the writer of the first three films, is now also in the director’s seat. It will be interesting to see how closely this new film resembles the previous Bourne movies, which were split two to one between two different directors.
Universal Pictures has released a fun new featurette for the film today that gives fans a look at never before seen footage and a chance to peek behind the scenes. There’s also interviews with the cast which, besides Renner, includes Edward Norton and Rachel Weisz. With all three actors new to the franchise, they should have some fresh insight to divulge.
