It’s been a long time since the Borderlands movie has drummed up anything approaching positive buzz, but the good news is that Jamie Lee Curtis has come along to try and single-handedly change that perception.
In fact, it was only recently that reports surfaced offering that The Last of Us showrunner Craig Mazin was so unhappy with the way the film is coming together that he’s had his name taken off the credits entirely in favor of going under a pseudonym, which is just one of the many issues to plague the video game adaptation.
Eli Roth didn’t return for reshoots with Deadpool‘s Tim Miller drafted in instead, while there’s no sign of a release date on the horizon after Borderlands was pulled from its planned November 2022 slot. However, Academy Award winner Curtis dropping the first details on her character of Patricia Tannis in an interview with Entertainment Weekly is sure to get the juices flowing for fans and newbies alike.
“It’s a little over-the-top, it’s pretty wacky, it’s fun. She’s a strange woman who has objectum sexuality, where she falls in love with inanimate objects. She is the character that knew Cate Blanchett’s character’s mother, which is why I’m in the movie. I am the connection back to Cate’s early past.”
The cast – which also includes the aforementioned Curtis and Cate Blanchett alongside the likes of Kevin Hart and Jack Black – is also a reason to remain hopefully optimistic about Borderlands, but very few productions that endure so many setbacks turn out to be halfway decent, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
