Charlie Cox had one specific request to work on ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

And it wasn't fulfilled.

Marvel Studios announced last year that it would be releasing Daredevil: Born Again, a Disney Plus show that’s said to be different from the Netflix adaptation of the Marvel superhero. While it is amazing to see the media juggernaut bring back Charlie Cox to reprise his role as Daredevil, it has been revealed that one of the actor’s requests wasn’t fulfilled by the studio.

One of the requests Cox made when the offer came through from Disney, was to have his old Netflix stunt actor, Chris Brewster, involved. Brewster has worked on stunts for other huge Marvel titles, such as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Loki, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, just to name a few. He was also the fight choreographer and Matt Murdock’s stunt double in the Netflix Daredevil series.

Brewster appeared on the Ikuzo Unscripted podcast, where he revealed that Cox asked Marvel Studios to bring him back as his stunt double for the Disney Plus series, but sadly, his request was rejected multiple times. He also revealed that people who worked on all three seasons of the Netflix’s Daredevil series didn’t receive phone calls or get asked to be involved in Born Again.

“But ultimately, Born Again, I had no doubt that they were going to reach out to me. Charlie specifically requests me on everything, and he always goes out of his way, and fights for me to be there…

“…And he asked them over and over to bring me in, and I never even got a phone call. Ironically, nobody that worked on Seasons 1, 2, or 3 went back.”

Cox had a history of praising Brewster’s performance during his time working on the Netflix series. In a 2016 interveiw with Biff Bam Pop!, Cox revealed that he had “full trust” in Brewster, saying he was “the best in the trade”, along with the show’s director, Phil Abraham. Meanwhile, in a 2016 Nylon interview, the actor claimed that Brewster was able “able to move like him” to the point where he struggled to “know who is who.”

Brewster has been vocal about being left out during the production of Daredevil: Born Again. He expressed his disappointment when Marvel Studios decided that it doesn’t want its show to be like the Netflix series, and that it is unfair that the people who worked on the Netflix series were not invited back. The stunt actor also revealed on Twitter that he hadn’t been allowed to audition and the role was given to someone else.

It seems like Marvel Studios is doing everything in its power to ensure that Daredevil: Born Again will be its own thing and remove its ties to the Netflix series. This is quite a shame since the Netflix series received an average critic score of 92 percent and an audience score of 89 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

At the moment, Daredevil: Born Again is currently in production, but it could be delayed due to the ongoing writers’ strike. The series is scheduled to be released on Disney Plus sometime in 2024.
