The once-mighty Arrowverse isn’t what it used to be. Arrow, Supergirl, The Flash, Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow have all been cancelled. Superman & Lois is the only survivor, and even that’s debatable as it was revealed in season 2 that the show actually takes place in its own separate continuity.
Even though The CW’s dalliance with DC Comics seems to be tapering off dramatically, the network is still providing a lot of content for Max. The rebranded HBO Max has revealed its slate for July, confirming that both Superman & Lois and the first (and only) season of Gotham Knights will arrive on July 28.
While Gotham Knights isn’t exactly must-watch TV and wasn’t renewed, we heartily recommend Superman & Lois. The CW went hard on the third season, delivering some surprisingly great VFX work and teasing Lex Luthor as the main villain of season 4. Tyler Hoechlin continues to impress as Superman/Clark Kent, and let’s face it, what’s going on in the small screen DC universe is a lot more competently made than the stuff churned out by Warner Bros. on the silver screen.
We’re hoping for some firm news on a window for Superman & Lois season 4 very soon, though judging by the previous release windows, it looks like a lock for March 2024. Here’s hoping The CW continues to provide the budget that makes this such a dazzling watch. In the meantime, if you haven’t caught up with the show, then Max will be the way to go as of the end of July.
