Stephen King uttering the phrase ‘was tight, yo’ is offputting, even if he was totally correct

How do you do, fellow kids!

Horror author Stephen King recently flexed some of his ‘youthfulness’ on Twitter, proving that being a highly acclaimed author isn’t enough to escape the “cringe” of using modern-day lingo. Fortunately, he uses the term correctly, which shocks his followers as he effectively conveys a message using ‘hip’ terminology despite his age.

This all comes as a result of King complimenting the writing team of the crime drama series, The Wire. For those who have not seen the show, it is a HBO series that was released back in 2002 and ended in 2008. It ran for five seasons and starred Dominic West, John Doman, and Idris Elba. It was also nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for “Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series.”

So how does one convince the younger generation to watch a show that received high praise at the time but is two decades old? By using modern day lexicon to describe the show’s excellent writing, that’s how!

“This was tight, yo.” This is the last thing you would normally expect to hear from someone who’s 75 years old. While people replied to the author, claiming they had seen the series before and agreed that The Wire was great back when it first aired, it didn’t stop his followers from poking fun at the words used to describe this 2002 crime drama.

Regardless, people get the message that King intended, and the fact that it was used correctly sparks a conversation about how good The Wire was, how it differed from previous programs, and how we need to support writers during the Writers’ Strike due to the threat of AI taking over jobs.

King has been rewatching this HBO crime drama since March. The author praised the show’s first season, and claimed that nothing in the series told him how to feel about a certain scene until the last episode. It is currently unknown if he has finished rewatching the entire show, but at least we know that the series still holds up to this day.

If you want to watch The Wire, it is still available to stream on Max.
