The Marvels is officially the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s last line of defense in the fight to make their 2023 film slate a net positive; after Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania turned out to be an franchise low point, here’s hoping The Marvels can join Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in steering Marvel’s theatrical ship back on course.

The film also marks the big screen debut of fan-favorite newcomer Iman Vellani, the talent behind the MCU’s Kamala Khan and quite possibly the only person who could challenge Kevin Feige himself for the title of the industry’s biggest Marvel superfan.

We Got This Covered’s own David James got the opportunity to attend a recent panel in Glastonbury, UK featuring the film’s writer-director Nia DaCosta, where she discussed her sophomore MCU dive (she was previously involved with Ms. Marvel‘s sixth and final episode), and he enquired about what it was like to work with the young actress on set, given her curious combination of being particularly green in the industry and, by all accounts, nothing short of delightful. DaCosta’s answer was just about what we expected.

“I say this to everyone and she’s my absolute favorite, she’s the best. She’s so wonderful, she really has her head on straight. Like, she’s just she’s so professional, and she’s fun. She’s so sweet and she’s cool. She’s my favorite. I love her so much.”

Indeed, it seems DaCosta struck gold in getting to collaborate with Vellani, as the creative team for Ms. Marvel did just last summer. Watching this rising star continue to grow her career will surely be nothing short of awe-inspiring, especially since she’s using the MCU, of all things, as a springboard.

The Marvels is due in theaters on Nov. 10.
