Netflix's unpredictable content strategy keeps throwing out new wrinkles.

Trying to understand Netflix’s approach to episodic content is enough to have you tearing your hair out, but even recent developments have nothing on the existence of The Tailor, which already has its third season in the can despite the first run of episodes premiering last month.

Eyebrows were raised and frustrations were voiced when it was revealed at the beginning of the week that The Diplomat was already back in front of cameras for season 2 a mere seven weeks after it first arrived on the platform, meaning the political thriller has debuted, been renewed, and started filming its next batch of installments in the time since Shadow and Bone went radio silent.

Even then, it’s got nothing on The Tailor, which has admittedly proven hugely popular after cracking the Top 10 in upwards of 60 countries around the world when it was first added to the platform back on May 2. The mysterious tale was originally supposed to air on local Turkish network TV8, but was then pulled and revealed to be heading to Disney Plus instead, only for it to then be announced after that it would be a Netflix exclusive.

Principal photography on the first season wrapped in June of last year, with season 2 getting underway the following month, before the third and presumably final stretch called it a day on October 4, 2022 according to various reports. Season 2 is scheduled to hit Netflix on July 25, so based on the law of averages, the finale should screen sometime in the fall.

Netflix loves cancellations, and it’s been handing out rapid-fire renewals more than usual recently, but shooting a full three seasons back-to-back certainly makes The Tailor stand out from the crowd.
