Supernatural star Jensen Ackles has his sights set on another major role for a future superhero blockbuster. However, his motivation isn’t enough to make him let go of a role that could have been his.
During a Q&A panel at the Jus In Bello Convention in Italy, Ackles was informed about the rumors that he could be the next Batman in James Gunn’s Batman: The Brave and The Bold. It was speculated the actor is one of the top three contenders for the role. At the moment, there hasn’t been much word about auditions for the next Batman movie, but that hasn’t stopped Ackles from showing interest. However, he neither confirmed nor denied that he auditioned for it.
“Uh, I don’t know. Even if I knew, I wouldn’t tell you. I mean, could I do it? Sure. Would I want to do it? Yes.”
While fans were excited about Ackles’ interest in joining the DCU, it didn’t stop him from being reminded that he lost the role of Joel Miller to Pedro Pascal. It was revealed back in January that the actor wanted to play Joel in the HBO series The Last of Us, but sadly didn’t get the role. He laughed at the idea of losing the Batman role to Pascal once more and jokingly told the actor on stage to let him know if he passed on a role so he could take it.
“Will I be mad when Pedro Pascal gets it? Yeah. God bless you, Pedro. You just keep killing it, buddy. Let me know when you pass on something.”
Ackles has been playing the voice of Batman since 2010 and will reprise the role in Justice League: Warworld, scheduled to be released in 2023. He has the credentials to play the Dark Knight, so fingers crossed that his talents are on James Gunn’s radar.
A scheduled release date for Batman: The Brave and the Bold is yet to be announced. The only update revealed so far about this DC film is that The Flash director, Andy Muschietti, is DC’s top choice to direct the film. However, a script has not been written yet due to the ongoing writers’ strike.
