Kraven the Hunter is on the docket for this fall, proving that not even a legendary stinker like Morbius is capable of tanking a cinematic universe full of superhumans, aliens, and infinitely questionable scripts.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson looks riveting as the titular villain, and the involvement of such players as Calypso, Rhino, Chameleon, and Christopher Abbott’s still-unnamed villain just might make for a plight that injects some life back into Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, even if we’ll have a hard time keeping a straight face when Kraven ends up needing to activate his “apex predator powers” with lion’s blood.
But the major Kraven the Hunter talking point is whether it will bringing the SSU into R-rated territory; the universe’s current cast of protagonists, Morbius and Venom, were prime candidates to spearhead a film with a mature rating, yet they still got slapped with a big old PG. Will Kraven the Hunter, armed with an equally menacing lead, fall to the same fate?
Does Kraven the Hunter have an R rating?
Fear not, for Kraven the Hunter will, in fact, have an R rating, and this has been fairly accessible knowledge for some time now. Needless to say, the rating adds a layer of interest that will almost certainly work to the film’s advantage. Sure, it might miss out on a couple of ticket sales, but given that it’s the first time the SSU will be venturing into this territory, fans will no doubt be interested in seeing how the film will try rising to that occasion; the chatter is already deafening.
Kraven the Hunter will release to theaters on Oct. 6.
