‘We’ll have to just wait and see what happens’: Tom Holland is keeping his Spider-Man future close to the chest

The actor has an infinitely respectable requirement for future films.

For all the emphasis on connectivity that gets put on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the franchise’s more relatively solo entries seem to fly especially high; the Guardians trilogy ranks among the finest collections in the whole MCU, and the more self-contained Disney Plus projects, including Moon Knight and Werewolf by Night, absolutely knocked our socks off last year.

But if there’s one character that can generate boatloads of excitement all on his own, it’s Spider-Man, especially where Tom Holland‘s obligatory Peter Parker arc had just begun following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the first whisper of Holland’s next top-billed Marvel project will surely cause fans to flock.

As for whether that will ever happen again, the actor has chosen the classic Marvel actor answer by being both coy and youthfully enthusiastic. In a recent interview with ET Online, the Crowded Room star revealed exactly what it would take for him to keep playing Spider-Man, namely a script that adds marked depth to the character and his plight; a respectable requirement, and one he seems hopeful will be the case.

I think as long as we can do justice to Peter Parker. As long as we can keep elevating and making the films better and making them mean more, then I’ll be there. I’d be stupid to say that I wouldn’t be the luckiest kid alive if I got to do it again, there’s stuff going on, but we’ll have to just wait and see what happens.

Indeed, being Spider-Man is pretty damn cool, even if you don’t want to be known as the character for the rest of your career. As much as we’re confidently hoping that this isn’t the end of Holland’s webslinging era, we’d be just as wise not to sleep on his against-type projects either; we’re sure he’d appreciate it.

Speaking of which, the first three episodes of The Crowded Room, the upcoming Holland-led psychological thriller miniseries, is due on Apple TV Plus on July 9.
