During an appearance on Good Morning America, Harrison Ford spoke about his love of playing Indiana Jones ahead of the final installment in the franchise, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. Having played the character for over 40 years now, it’s natural that Ford would be attached to Indy, and the clip makes it clear that the final adventure is an emotional departure for Ford.

“I cannot tell you how much joy it has given me to be Indiana Jones,” Ford said during the appearance. “And I’ve done it five times, and I’ve loved every time, even the time when it wasn’t as much admired as it sometimes was.” His words likely allude to the somewhat poor response Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull received, but Ford remains steadfast in his devotion to the franchise.

“But every time, the passion of the people involved has been — I can only say that it matched my passion because I loved what this kind of film brings to an audience. This combination of adventure and emotion is really – the elements of its success,” Ford said, before praising his castmates, such as Mads Mikkelsen and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. He called every part “brilliant.”

Ford also praised director James Mangold, saying, “Man, talk about sweat equity. The guy never stops, and he’s a match for Indiana Jones.”

The rollout of the final Indiana Jones film has been an emotional time for Ford. By the time the film releases, it will have been a hugely defining feature of Ford’s career. The film, which premiered on May 18 at the Cannes Film Festival, is scheduled for a worldwide release on June 30.
