Get those priorities in order.

It’s easy to get caught up in the hype and hyperbole that surrounds every new film or television project emanating from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has literally seen people miss life-changing moments in favor of bidding farewell to the franchise’s favorite band of cosmic misfits.

While it may be the worst-reviewed of the three, it can’t be denied that the filmmaker’s fond farewell to the characters he’d shepherded for over a decade sends both the Guardians and Gunn out in style. The door remains open for additional adventures, but Kevin Feige surely isn’t going to even consider a Vol. 4 without its creator-in-chief at the helm.

Either way, we’ll be curious to find out how the Multiverse Saga at large fares without the DC Studios co-CEO, especially when he revealed his consultancy role wasn’t necessarily restricted to the furthest-flung corners of the MCU. The last stand for Star-Lord and the gang has been dominating the cultural conversation for the last week, and it turns out that baseball player Casey Schmitt missed the most important phonecall of his life as a result, something Gunn was more than happy to endorse.

Let’s hope Schmitt liked the movie, then, otherwise he’d be furious at finding out he’s opted to spend two and a half hours being disappointed in the multiplex at the expense of finding out he was heading to the big leagues. That’s the grip Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 currently has people in, though, something Gunn will be hoping extends through the summer of 2025 when Superman: Legacy ignites the latest evolution of his career.
