Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is earning itself even more praise for doing something many Marvel fans wish they had the power to do: effectively removing Thor: Love and Thunder from MCU continuity. Elsewhere, speaking of the Guardians, James Gunn has revealed that he already helped reboot Spider-Man long before he started doing the same for DC’s Superman. Last but not least, online detectives may just have unearthed a surprise crossover cameo in Disney Plus’ next Marvel series.

It’s difficult to unite the increasingly fractured Marvel fandom on anything these days, but discovering that James Gunn snubbed Thor: Love and Thunder in Guardians 3 is managing it. After fans noticed the very different depictions of Groot in both movies makes little sense in terms of the larger Multiverse Saga timeline, the internet was delighted to realize this means the new threequel pretty much shuffles the infamous fourth Thor film from the canon. With Taika Waititi being kept busy with various other non-MCU projects, it’s just possible it’ll stay that way for a while to come, thereby restoring peace to the galaxy.

We knew James Gunn was supposed to helm “the next 10 to 20 years” of Marvel’s cosmic universe had he not jumped to DC — although Marvel would rather we forget it — but it’s news to us that he already had a much bigger impact on the MCU than just the Guardians films. Gunn has come clean that he used to be consulted on all of Marvel Studios’ productions, specifying Spider-Man: Homecoming, Doctor Strange, and Captain Marvel as among those he had a hand in. It’ll be interesting to see if he borrows any tricks from those superhero origins flicks for the upcoming Superman: Legacy.

Secret Invasion has been hyped up as the MCU’s first full-blown noir story, so it’s only fitting that online detectives have sniffed out a major mystery concerning the Samuel L. Jackson vehicle. Cobie Smulders’ starting to follow a fellow MCU veteran on Instagram has set alarm bells ringing that this person, not seen since their character underwent a major change, could finally return in the show — and maybe be revealed as a Skrull? Who knows, fans may just be doing their thing and be making a mountain out of molehil… or maybe that’s just what they want us to think. Time to don your tinfoil hats, folks!

It might be too late for Guardians 3 to fix a major oversight with the MCU’s adaptation of Thanos, but more up-to-the-minute Marvel news will arrive soon in record time.
