Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 truly has it all; heart-wrenching character moments, a healthy dose of the humor we’ve all grown so fond of, an ending that both bids our heroes a fitting farewell and promises an exciting new era, and of course, a brand new, adorable little critter character with the exact same energy as Grogu.

Indeed, Vol. 3 introduced us to Blurp, the furry alien pet of an unnamed Ravager that Adam Warlock adopts after incinerating his previous owner. Now a member of the new Guardians of the Galaxy, it’s safe to say that we haven’t seen the last of this cuddly newcomer.

But it doesn’t look like Guardians mastermind James Gunn is completely sold on Blurp’s capacity for badassery, which one clearly needs a marked penchant for if they’re going to secure proper membership of the team.

We can’t bring ourselves to side with Gunn on this one; Blurp did, after all, watch his father get brutally murdered by Adam Warlock, and rather than cower in fear for an extended period or let his hatred fester, he marched right up to the Sovereign being and effectively declared “okay, you’re my dad now,” and didn’t give Adam much choice in the matter. If that isn’t the pinnacle of alpha male energy, we don’t know what is.

In any case, like his adoptive father, Blurp only got so much time to show off his skills in Vol. 3, so it will be some time before he really gets his chance to prove his doubters wrong. One thing is for sure; he’ll have a legion of new fans backing his every move from here on out.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now playing in theaters.
