With Evil Dead Rise hitting theaters and instantly becoming a fan-favorite, there are a lot of questions about what could follow the latest chapter in the franchise.
As director Lee Cronin mentioned previously, the new film would maintain a continuity with Sam Raimi’s 1981 original that marked the starting point of the saga, meaning that the current entry is a direct sequel that bears thematic resemblance with its predecessors.
The similarity in this case is connected to the three volumes of the Necromonicon, one of which is central to each movie, thereby tying the franchise together.
The continuity is evident, and with all the praises that are being showered on the gore-fest that is Evil Dead Rise, fans are interested to know whether they will be treated to any sequels. If so, how it will fit the trend that’s been followed to date?
In an interview with Variety, Cronin revealed his plans in detail for what to expect in case his much-applauded work ever gets sequels. Speaking on the subject, the filmmaker teased his unwillingness to stop after his recent reinvention, and goes on to mention that he does have a few ideas.
“I certainly do. I didn’t want to bait it for sequels necessarily, even though the ending could be interpreted that way. But the ending for me was closing the loop back to the beginning. The way the story is told, I’ve got four places I’d like to look at in terms of where to go… I’m excited for the potential of what could be next and and really hope that I can be involved in in future chapters.”
With the positive impression made by the new movie, sequels would certainly answer a lot of questions, but until anything is confirmed on that front, we are free to speculate.
