The White Men Can’t Jump reboot starring Jack Harlow serves as a reminder that sometimes a remake of a classic is unnecessary.

This example was demonstrated on April 20 following the mixed reactions to the film’s trailer. White Men Can’t Jump, set to debut on Hulu next month, is a reboot of the 1992 original blockbuster of the same name that catapulted the careers of Wesley Snipes and Rosie Perez. Its premise follows two men forced to combine their basketball talents to win some money.

The 2023 remake of White Men Can’t Jump marks a monumental moment in Harlow’s career because it is the rapper’s first acting role. The movie also stars Sinqua Walls, Lance Reddick, Teyana Taylor, Laura Harrier, Tamera Kissen, J. Alphonse Nicholson, Myles Bullock, Richard Nevels, LeChristopher Williams, and many others.

Although White Men Can’t Jump‘s trailer received over a thousand likes on 20th Century Studio’s YouTube page and 873 likes on Hulu, the comments were a completely different story. As the trailer circulated online, many Twitter users listed particular reasons why they didn’t favor the White Men Can’t Jump reboot.

One individual expressed how bad the trailer looked.

At the same time, another Twitter user disclosed that they couldn’t understand why there was a White Men Can’t Jump remake because they felt the original could “stand on its own.”

A third person questioned whether Hollywood has run out of original movie ideas.

Another tweeter stated they were on the fence about watching the White Men Can’t Jump reboot because of how much they enjoyed the original film and the actors’ performances.
