The world couldn’t be more excited for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and it shows. Whether because of rampant fan speculation, video essays, or articles — June 2 can’t come soon enough.
Miles Morales and his extended spider-family are as iconic as any super team ever put to film, and now it looks like they may have found their newest member: Guillermo del Toro.
Just when you thought your Friday couldn’t get any better, the Sony Pictures Animation Twitter account had to go and post this breathtaking piece of fan art. Allow us to introduce you to — Spider Guillermo.
Now, the odds that fans will actually be getting a Guillermo del Toro cameo in Across the Spider-Verse are pretty darn low, but that doesn’t mean we still can’t appreciate the concept. Cleary playing on the mulitversal premise that Into the Spider-Verse did so well, Sony has begun to to turn pop-culture icons into spider-people.
Check out Serena Williams as a newly minted web-head.
Or, take a look at Priyanka and Nick as beautifully drawn wall-crawlers.
The list really goes on and on, and we’re definitely here for it. Sony taking celebrities and turning them into Spider-Man’s dream team is an incredible idea. Actually, it’s amazing — spectacular — superior, even.
Sadly we don’t think any of these dream casting have actually been included in the upcoming film, but with the type of traction they seem to be getting, who knows? Perhaps there’s a post-credit scene in the near future that will blow our collective minds. Until then, in the immortal words of Mary Jane Watson, go get ’em, tiger.
