Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler are gearing up to wow audiences with the next installment in the story of Nick and Audrey Spitz, the couple at the heart of the Murder Mystery film franchise. Murder Mystery 2 hits Netflix on March 31, and we cannot wait to see what’s next for our ordinary couple turned Sherlock Holmes-level detective pair.
Speaking to MovieWeb, Aniston and Sandler talked about everything from their previous projects together to the dream location for their next movie together, and of course they had to answer a question about a murder mystery.
When it comes to crafting one, Sandler and Aniston are better at acting out an already-written story than taking on one of their own, but they gave it their best shot. If the cast of Friends were the suspects in their latest murder mystery, who would they think was responsible for the crime?
Sandler immediately says it would be Schwimmer, while Aniston jokes that a monkey would go missing — but wait, who wanted the monkey most? There’s only one culprit, declares Sandler.
“I think, uh, without a doubt —Phoebe. Without a doubt!”
Anniston jumped in, asking why it would be her because she loved the animal. Sandler says that she was saying that — she didn’t actually love it; she wanted it gone! The two laughed and decided to get more serious; what if something really important went missing — or someone significant who dares to be responsible?
It could be the sweet guy, the neighbor from upstairs, or it could be Ugly Naked Guy, one of them would go missing, but what happens next? Neither Sandler nor Aniston could nail down a story or pick who could be responsible for a murder mystery-type storyline. Aniston finally ended that part of the chat with a laugh and the realization that building the tale isn’t their strong suit.
“Yeah, I don’t know. We’re not great at this.”
Luckily, Aniston and Sandler aren’t the ones writing the story; they’re just doing stellar acting in the Murder Mystery franchise, and with a second installment on the horizon, fans are already hoping for their next crime-solving vacation. So where would the pair like to see their characters travel next? In addition to answering that question, the next part of their conversation left us scratching our heads a little bit.
Sandler: We’ve been talking Greece. She’s been telling me let’s get to Greece quick. Uh, before—Yeah.
Aniston: Yeah, I don’t know. Yeah—
Sandler: Before Tom Hanks sells his house. That’s what you were saying.
Aniston: No, we wanna go to Greece. Greece would be so fun. We’re figuring it out. We know there are so many places to go.
Sandler: You know where it’s gonna end up being? Wherever Netflix says, ‘go there,’ and we’ll be like, ‘yes, Netflix.’
Anniston and Sandler say “yeah” a lot, almost like they know something vital we don’t. Could Murder Mystery 3 already be in the works? Is something massive on the horizon if so? Only time will tell, but we’re anxious to find out.
Here’s to another movie in the Murder Mystery universe, to more with Nick and Audrey Spitz, and dare we say it — to a sequel to Just Go With It already. We’ve been waiting since 2011!
