Pocket News has discovered some recent Federal Communications Commission documents that appear to show a new smaller PS3 model, that has been nicknamed PS3 Super Slim by the gaming press.

The documents pertain to the FCC label position on the “4000” series PlayStation 3 and contain a drawing showing the bottom view of the unannounced hardware. The current PS3 Slim that was released in 2009 is in the “3000” series, and is clearly a different design than what is shown in the drawings.

Below are images from the FCC documents that show the new “4000” seriesĀ PS3 Super Slim, followed by the “3000” series PS3 Slim, and the original PlayStation 3.

Sony has not confirmed that a new slimmer model of the PS3 is in the works but recent rumors suggest that the company will reveal the new model at Gamescom in Germany next month. Backing up those rumors, is a comment from Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida who told Eurogamer at E3 last month that “We should never say never” to a new PS3 hardware revision, adding the “hardware guys are always looking at ways to make things cheaper, smaller.”

For now consider the PS3 Super Slim to be a rumor, and as soon as something official is announced either way We Got This Covered will let you know.
