Fans are collectively balking at the suggestion that James Gunn include more superheroes from the SnyderVerse in his iteration of the DCU.

A brave fan broached the topic in the r/DC_Cinematic subreddit, asking if characters like Rorschach and Dr. Manhattan from Zack Snyder‘s Watchmen should feature in Gunn’s DCU.

The general sentiment was a resounding no. Most fans couldn’t see the point of adding Watchmen characters to Gunn’s rendition of the DC cinematic universe, considering the gravitas of the material.

That same sentiment reverberated throughout the thread, with another Redditor comparing the fusion of Snyder’s characters with Gunn’s vision to the oil and water idiom.

Another Redditor insisted that the twain should never meet, as Watchmen is a critique of the concept of superheroes, while the other films are generally lighthearted.

Yet another fan suggested that adding Rorschach to Gunn’s DCU would be baffling.

One Redditor pointed out that including the Watchman characters makes no sense, as they have been largely absent from DCU narratives after the Doomsday Clock series.

Another fan underscored that Watchmen is a critical analysis of superheroes and has no place in mainstream DCU films.

Adding famously somber characters from Watchmen to conventional DCU films would most likely infringe on the integrity of its storyline. Even if approached with great creativity and care, Watchmen characters would come off as wet blankets and diminish the playful spirit that distinguishes most DC superhero films.
